Japanese label WIND AND SEA is joining hands with Vans to release a street-style collection that would appeal to crowds that prefer pared back graphics. When WIND AND SEA is not releasing manga or anime collaborative capsules, the brand is known for its casual and minimalistic chic approach to streetwear. Such a creative direction, spearheaded by respected photographer Takashi Kumagi, takes root in this Vans x WIND AND SEA collection.
Leading this collaborative effort is a redesign of the Old Skool. Available in a versatile beige and black, much of the Old Skool’s original design and white iconic stripe is retained. The only inclusion would be the words “WIND” and “SEA” printed on the side of the heels. The midsole puts a spin on both the brands’ monikers — the words “VANSANDSEA” are debossed on the gum sole’s length.
Pairing well with these revamped Vans x WIND AND SEA Old Skools are oversized tees and high socks. The oversized t-shirts come in two basic colors, white and black, and have the same graphics albeit in inverted colorways. Aligned to the left of the shirt is the word “SEA” filled with the recognizable Vans’ checker flag. The sleeves feature both brands’ logo on each side, acknowledging that the shirt belongs to a collaborative project.
The high socks follow a similar design track. Available in white, the checkers flag and “VANSANDSEA” are displayed prominently on the ribbed cuff. Vans’ Off the Wall logo is printed on the sole for an extra bit of branding.
This capsule collection is a Japan-exclusive, but will be made available online on WIND AND SEA stores on 10 June. It is also listed on the SNKRDUNK, so be sure to keep an eye out for any listings on 10 June. For more pictures of this casual-cool collection and where to buy, keep scrolling!
