Another year has passed with the New Balance 550 showing no signs of slowing down. Almost a week into 2023, New Balance continues to pump out variations of the heritage model.

Following today’s news of a vintage “Team Royal” and a “White and Silver”, the Boston-based footwear brand surprised us with a non-leather pair that sports pops of “Turtledove” neon green.

Under Aimé Leon Dore’s creative leadership, New Balance has honored the NB 550’s rich heritage by sticking to its OG specs and keeping to a vintage 80s look that, often than not, features leather as its main material. It is this relentless vision that makes this incoming pair an oddball.

Here, the New Balance 550 “Turtledove” switches things up completely, eschewing leather for a mix of canvas, suede and mesh. Most of the sneaker is covered with canvas and suede in neutral tones such as white, beige and “Sandstone”.

NB cleverly sprinkled some neon green around the outsole and trimmings, which further draws the eye to the unique choice of materials and construction of this pair.

As we wait for more release details of the New Balance 550 “Turtledove” to come through, take a first look at this colorway via official images in the gallery above.

In other sneaker-related news, here’s an early look at the threeway collab between Stüssy, Timberland, and GORE-TEX.
