Korean designer label Andersson Bell and ASICS are producing some of the most interesting designs this summer. Last year, the collaboration released a trio of GEL-1090s, and this year they’re adding on a trio of HN2-S Protoblasts. The collaboration is a wild mish-mash: Andersson Bell is known for mixing Korean streetstyle and Scandinavian minimalism, ASICS focuses on combining the latest technology with utilitarian style, while the work of Kiko Kostadinov, the Bulgarian designer who created the silhouette, is centred around modern workwear. As a result, the overall design of the HN2-S Protoblast is a complex amalgamation of many styles, influences and purposes.

It takes a scrutinising eye to catch the new features of Andersson Bell’s HN2-S Protoblast silhouette. Compared to the existing intersections of lines, shapes and textures, their additions subtly complement Kostadinov’s dazzling design. Andersson Bell attached anchors across the upper, pulling the auxiliary laces that run across to shoe close to the side, heel and instep. Light-coloured Andersson Bell branding also finds its place on the heel tab above the ASICS logo.

The Andersson Bell x ASICS HN2-S Protoblast is being released in three colourways: “Black Silver”, “Grey Green” and “Tan Brown”. According to the design team, each colourway is inspired by their favourite childhood films. “Black Silver” is derived from the Batmobile that features across countless Batman movies, “Grey Green” symbolises a story involving the shark from Jaws, and “Tan Brown” is inspired by the jungle ruins and temples of Indiana Jones.

Each of these worldviews leads to a fact that they are actually one island in one world. We live in a world where many parts have become digitalized. This project started with our aim not to show contents that exist only in the digital world and do not exist in reality. We wanted to show real contents that are painstakingly created one by one with analog sensibility.

The Andersson Bell x ASICS HN2-S Protoblast collection met a limited Asia release on 27 May, but more details on a worldwide release within 2022 are expected to surface soon. Stay tuned for more updates!
