In an extremely physical sport like basketball, very few complete multiple seasons, especially as age starts to catch up with the athletes. LeBron James is one of the few names to reach his 19th season, and is looking towards a 20th season in the near future. The Nike LeBron series has continuously honoured the King in his seasons, and before his eventual advancement into his 20th, Nike is celebrating the NBA star’s achievements with a playful “LeBronival” colourway.

The element that one notices first is the use of multi-colour blocking on the shoe. The mismatched upper and rubber sole complement each other when worn together, perhaps symbolising the team nature in basketball. The use of cheerful reds, greens, yellows and blues throughout the leather upper, nylon tongues and plastic guards matches the carnivalesque name attached to this release.

Inside is where the celebration happens. LeBron James’ many accolades — including his four NBA titles and four Finals MVP awards among others — is featured alongside graphics of banner flags, neon signs, and ticket stubs. However, conveying the reality of the LA Lakers’ star who received both praise and criticism, negative jeers are interspaced between the illustrated graphics.

Though yet to be confirmed, the Nike LeBron 19 “LeBronival” is expected to release in June 2022 at a retail price of USD$200.
