QUICK LOOK:
Where to buy the Cass x Prada Collection
22-year-old artist Cassius Hirst has, and continues to, make waves in the sneaker world. Cut from the same creative cloth as his father and famed artist Damien Hirst, Cassius (or commonly known as Cass) has been utilising sneakers as his canvas since he was 14. Then, he painted a pair of Air Force 1s for Father’s Day. Fast forward a few years and his art is worn by notable names — a list that includes rapper A$AP Rocky and the late Virgil Abloh.
Now, Cass welcomes Prada into his oeuvre with a capsule collection that reimagines Prada’s America’s Cup sneakers. Recruited by head designer Miuccia Prada herself, Cass transforms the often monochromatic or muted America’s Cup design into collectibles that resemble modern art pieces. The collection is comprised of four styles — ATT4CK,D3CAY, SUST4IN, and REL3ASE — that are named after the evolution of sound. A fitting theme given Cass’ passion for music.
Each style represents a form of technique used to design the sneaker, spawning a total of 22 colourways in the collection. In ATT4CK, resin is combined with neon spray paint to generate hard-edges and moulded spikes, creating a 3D effect that emulates the building tension of a note. D3CAY leans towards a distressed look with faded colours that are formed from layering, relaying the rate at which sound dies. In opposition, SUST4IN plays with shades of the same colour and handcrafted white strokes, giving off a vibrant appearance that mimics sound at its maximum. Finally, REL3ASE experiments with contrast and tones to create a blending effect that is rare with applications of neon — a representation of the juxtaposition between sound and silence.
Aside from the multidisciplinary art practices that merge in this collection, the Cass x Prada capsule is also a limited edition release with only 3, 000 units (across the entire range of 22 styles!) available worldwide. Each piece retails at USD$1,790. Keep scrolling to view the collectibles that simultaneously function as both sneaker and abstract painting:
