Conceived in 1996 as a Japanese exclusive iteration of the Made in USA 585s, it would take almost 11 years for the silhouette to finally launch outside of Japan. Since then, a steady stream of 580s would make its way to retailers worldwide, with this “Grey/Navy” being the most recent of the lot.

This upcoming New Balance 580 “Grey/Navy” is a New Balance sneaker through and through. As the title suggests, varying shades of grey and navy share the uppers of this 580. The ever-famous New Balance grey adorns most of the uppers’ suede overlays, with pockets of navy and cream appearing in and around the mesh underlays beneath it.

A further dose of navy is shot into the Rollbar-infused sole unit, tongue and heel branding spots. To compliment the grey and navy hues, a white palette washes over much of the tongue and, midsole and inner lining, creating a colorway that’s clean and iconic.

The New Balance 580 “Grey/Navy” arrives today at New Balance as well as select retailers worldwide.

In other sneaker-related news, check out the upcoming Haribo x Vans collaboration.

<img decoding="async" class="“alignnone" wp-image-22285="" size-full”="" src="“https://snkrdunk.s3.ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com/en/magazine/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/20154621/Magazine-Bottom-Banner-copy.webp”" alt="“Magazine-Bottom-Banner”" width="“970”" height="“300"" srcset="https://snkrdunk.s3.ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com/en/magazine/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/20154621/Magazine-Bottom-Banner-copy.webp 970w, https://snkrdunk.s3.ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com/en/magazine/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/20154621/Magazine-Bottom-Banner-copy-300x93.webp 300w, https://snkrdunk.s3.ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com/en/magazine/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/20154621/Magazine-Bottom-Banner-copy-768x238.webp 768w, https://snkrdunk.s3.ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com/en/magazine/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/20154621/Magazine-Bottom-Banner-copy-282x87.webp 282w" sizes="(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px" />

The New Balance 580 might not be at the top of every sneakerhead’s bucket list, but it certainly has an interesting history.
