It was a record that stood for 39 years. A record believed to be hitherto unbreakable, until it wasn’t. History was made on 7 February, 2023 when LeBron James scored his 38,388th career point to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most ever scored in the NBA. The culmination thus far of a two-decade journey.<\/p>\n
Everybody in attendance waited in bated breath counting down each basket. An audience that consisted of the biggest names in the world from Jay-Z to Denzel Washington. LeBron James expressed the record wasn’t something he was after. Understandably through sheer consistency over two decades, it seemed more and more within grasp, and then it was an eventuality.<\/p>\n
To commemorate this collosal moment in sporting history, Nike engaged The (Shoe) Surgeon for a commemorative pair of LeBron XX, the namesake’s latest signature delivering a regal pair befitting a king.<\/p>\n
Crafted with authentic croc leather on the upper, white forms the base layer with gold landing on the outer layer of the hallmark double-Swoosh on the lateral. On the medial, features a similar golden Swoosh but with an iridescent finish. All the accoutrement is colored the same; from the “XX” dubraes, the rope eyelet on the throat, the King’s script logo on the tongue, and the branding tab on the heel counter.<\/p>\n
His 20-year journey is represented through the hand-drawn iconographies that proliferate the entirety of the interior, and the fore of the midsoles. At the backend sees a gradation that gradually shifts from white at the midfoot, to gold around the heel. The narrative is retold on the wrapping tissue as well.<\/p>\n
Anchoring the entirety of the shoe is the crystal rubber outsole with “+38,388K” imprinted through its translucent window. All of which are specially encapsulated in a marble-inspired shoebox with the Crown logo debossed onto its surface.<\/p>\n
It’s a 1-of-1 specially crafted by The Surgeon, a gift from Nike to LeBron James. Spare no agony for a retail release.<\/p>\n
