Americana has long permeated Japanese society over the decades since the ’40s; from film and music, to art, and ultimately a culture. One such is the esoteric appreciation for the Los Angeles Chicano culture. Whether it began with the aesthetic, it soon took on a more philosophical and principled form, adopting the resilience and fortitude of its forbears.<\/p>\n

Case in point: the hip-hop collective Japanese Magenese. Their influences are apparent, sonically and visually. The unit started in 2018 but they’ve completely immersed themselves in the timeless realm that the culture exists in. Their cadence is from the golden age of rap, their appearance from the same epoch; the same era where XLARGE originated from.<\/p>\n

A collaboration with the LA streetwear pioneer is a high honor, and yet a befitting one. Together, they produce a collection of LA-rooted staples. The group’s name\u2014stylized in Gothic Script, a typeface favored by Mexican-Americans\u2014is the motif that runs through all of them. It’s on the left breast, and oversized on the back of the leather and the velour tracksuit jacket. It’s also the centrerpiece of the knit cuff beanie and the crewneck sweater.<\/p>\n

The collection will range from \u00a54,950 (\u2248US$35) for the beanie; the crewneck sweater for \u00a512,100 (\u2248US$87); the velour tracksuit jacket and pants for \u00a514,300 (\u2248US$103) and \u00a513,200 (\u2248US$95); lastly \u00a555,000 (\u2248US$396) for the leather jacket. The whole enchilada will be available on calif and Rakuten Ichiban from 26 November, JST.<\/p>\n
