The Air Jordan 12 has some of its namesake’s most iconic moments imbedded into its DNA, from the Bulls’ 5th championship run to the unfathomable “Flu Game”. But its not all its claim to fame. Aesthetically, it stands out from its contemporaries in the linear Jordan line. Where most ’90s silhouettes can be “overdesigned” as with the zeitgeist of the time, the AJ 12 gracefully balances the principle with a touch of luxury. The shoe, designed by Tinker Hatfield said it was inspired by a women’s fashion shoe as well as the Japanese flag.<\/p>\n
The titular pair’s closest forebear, the Air Jordan 12 “Taxi” was one of the original five colorways released in 1996. An immediate hit, getting a retro in 2003. Decades later, it returns in a stealthy all-black makeup, giving extra attention to the various golden regalia on the upper.<\/p>\n
The pair in discussion, the “Black Taxi” stays close to its blueprint. It’s recognized as being the first in the line to carry no Nike branding, a move that set the Jumpman to even rival the Swoosh in terms of popularity. Golden hits come through by way of these branding elements: the Jumpman as seen on the tongue, insoles and out, heel tab, and the top two metal eye stays; as seen on the “23”\/”Two 3″ and “Jordan” imprint on the throat, heel and underfoot.<\/p>\n
From a performance standpoint, the silhouette was also the first for having a Zoom Air Unit in the series. Installed with a modified herringbone pattern for improved traction, and an improved carbon fiber shank plate, the Air Jordan 12 remains one of the most durable ones ever made.<\/p>\n
The pair is expected to drop on Nike’s brick-and-click on 3 December, with a price tag of $200.<\/p>\n
