Why the Hype? The “Nihil” Connection

Currently trading around the ¥12,000–¥14,000 range, Mega Zygarde ex SAR is driven by three key factors: Lore, Art, and Playability.

      1. The Icon of Munikis / Nihil Zero

Mega Zygarde makes its debut in the recent hit game, Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A.

The expansion’s title, Munikis / Nihil Zero, is a direct reference to Zygarde’s signature move, often translated conceptually as “Light that returns all to nothingness.” This card embodies the set’s identity. The artwork is a lore-lover’s dream, depicting Mega Zygarde unleashing this devastating attack, with its 10%, 50%, and Complete Formes looming in the background.

      2. The “Kantaro” Factor

For serious collectors, the artist’s name on the bottom left is just as important as the Pokémon itself. This SAR is illustrated by kantaro.

kantaro has a massive following in the hobby, known for illustrating high-value masterpieces like the “Yokohama Commemorative Deck Pikachu” (from Worlds 2023) and the popular “Canary SAR.” His involvement guarantees a baseline of collector demand, regardless of the card’s playability.

      3. High Risk, High Reward for Players

While the SAR rarity ensures scarcity (low pull rates), the price is currently accessible compared to top-tier “waifu” cards. However, the market is watching the competitive scene closely. If Mega Zygarde ex proves to be a meta-defining threat in tournaments, we could see these prices shift from “collector’s item” to “competitive staple,” driving the value up significantly.
