Why the Hype? Breaking Down the Surge

Why is this card commanding an opening price of over ¥40,000? It comes down to a perfect storm of character popularity, playability, and artwork.

      1. The “It Girl” of Unova Returns

Rosa (Mei in Japanese) is the female protagonist of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. Even over a decade after the game’s release, her design remains iconic. Her signature look—oversized twin tails, that distinct visor, and the sporty-chic combo of a light blue top and yellow culottes—has secured her a spot as one of the franchise’s most beloved trainers.

      2. Meta-Defining Potential

It’s not just for the binders—players want this card too. Rosa’s Encouragement features a powerful energy acceleration effect (attaching multiple energy cards in a single turn under specific conditions). Theory-crafters are already buzzing about potential deck archetypes, and if this card finds a home in the top-tier meta, demand will likely skyrocket even further.

      3. The “7-Year Itch” & The Waifu Tax

This is the first time Rosa has been featured on a solo card since the Dream League set launched back in 2019—a nearly 7-year gap.

In the Japanese market, full-art Female Supporter cards (often referred to as “Waifu cards” by collectors) historically hold incredible value. The previous “Rosa SR” from 2019 is currently trading around ¥40,000, setting a high bar for this new release.

      4. Top-Tier Artwork

Illustrated by Iori Suzuki, the SAR (Special Art Rare) features a stunning, slice-of-life composition. Rosa is depicted holding a Pikachu-shaped popsicle with a radiant smile. The art captures her vibrant personality perfectly, making it an instant “grail” for character collectors.

Given the pent-up demand and the high-quality art, the ¥40,000 opening price indicates this is likely the chase card of the set.
