Since founding ALD in 2014, he&#8217;s brought about a new degree of public excitement for vintage aesthetics, which is a space the Massachusetts shoemaker has always called their element. Following Santis&#8217; lead, this newfound love would eventually weave into some of New Balance&#8217;s product line, commanding a new kind of attention to the silhouettes and summoning a new kind of affection for the brand.<\/p>\n<p>One such beneficiary is the New Balance 550, which debuted in 1989 but finally getting its time in the sun with the help of Santis&#8217; Midas touch. Since then, the retro basketball sneaker has seen success even when its just within NB&#8217;s in-line offering.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the 550s gets dressed in Marquette University&#8217;s colors in another college-friendly outing. The fore remains mostly achromatic, the perforated white leather base giving the subtle mix of colors their chance to bask in the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p>Varying shades of yellow and blue\u2014the school&#8217;s official colors\u2014spread out across the upper. The yellow rests on the ankle collar and heel, while the latter making its way down leaving their mark on the &#8220;N&#8221; logo before completing their journey underfoot on the heel and the front of the outsole, with grey positioning itself between them.<\/p>\n<p>Final touches come through burgundy accents on the tongue and the lateral midsole. Right above it is a darker shaded space, giving contrast to the New Balance branding on printed on over it. The brand&#8217;s vintage basketball logo takes its place on the tongue tag.<\/p>\n<p>There isn&#8217;t much to go on about yet like a release date but we&#8217;ll be sure to give you an update once we do find out.
