[Update 18 Jun 2025] Two new variants of this deck have arisen; both incorporate a card from Terastal Festival ex [SV8a]<\/a>. The more common of these includes Leafeon ex for counterplay against the Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex deck as well as protection against spread damage in general. The less frequently seen variant, meanwhile, makes use of Umbreon ex primarily as a counter against the Gardevoir ex deck.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Update 22 May 2025] This deck has recently been gaining traction in the metagame with notable recent results including sixth place by Ian Robb at the Milwaukee Regionals, seventh place by Owen Dalgard at the Santiago Regionals, and eighth place by Hayato Takaoka at Champions League Aichi. As such, it’s clear that the Flareon ex\/Noctowl deck is gradually becoming one to keep an eye on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eeveelution cards have historically been geared towards Pok\u00e9mon TCG collectors rather than players. Despite their immense fan appeal and the enormous prices for which Special Art Rare (SAR) Eeveelution cards often sell, these cards’ gameplay viability has often been unimpressive. This was once again largely the case with the Eeveelution cards from the Eeveelution-centric set Terastal Festival ex [SV8a]<\/a>\u2014or so most people thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though not necessarily a major force in the meta as of yet, the Flareon ex\/Noctowl deck has clearly been shown to at least be competitive within the current metagame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Flareon ex card from Terastal Festival ex [SV8a] is this deck’s main attacker. Its Burning Charge attack deals 130 damage for just two Energy cards; however, what’s more important about this attack is the fact that it allows the player to attach two Energy cards to any of the player’s Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This allows the player to rapidly power up Flareon ex itself or the deck’s secondary attacker: Sylveon ex from Stellar Tera Type Starter Set Sylveon ex [SVLN]. Carnelian, Flareon ex’s second attack, dishes out 280 damage for three Energy cards; with the assistance of Burning Charge, fulfilling its otherwise rather clunky Energy requirement becomes much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sylveon ex card just mentioned has the Angelite attack for disruption purposes. For three Energy cards, Angelite allows the player to select two opposing Benched Pok\u00e9mon, then shuffle those Pok\u00e9mon and all cards attached to them into the opponent’s deck. Sylveon ex’s Magical Charm attack, meanwhile, hits for 160 damage while also reducing damage sustained by attacks on the opponent’s next turn by 100 before applying weakness and resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noctowl from Stellar Miracle [SV7], a mainstay of so many decks, is this deck’s main supporting Pok\u00e9mon. Via its Ability of Jewel Seeker, the player is able to pick out necessary Trainer cards from the deck and thus ease the setup process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Buying every card in the Flareon ex\/Noctowl deck costs at least 14,040 JPY (~US$99).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
