Nike’s Foamposite line has been making a steady comeback, with demand creeping back up\u2014but it\u2019s still a far cry from its peak in the early 2010s. A wave of unreleased samples has kept the conversation alive among sneakerheads, and Index Portland just added more fuel to the fire by showcasing an exclusive Nike Air Foamposite One \u201cNew York Yankees\u201d sample.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fresh off revealing their \u201cBronze Cough Drop\u201d Foamposite samples<\/a>, Index isn\u2019t slowing down. This particular pair, a 2019 sample, stands out with a navy and white upper featuring pinstripe-inspired detailing reminiscent of the iconic \u201cSharpie\u201d Foamposites. The colorway draws clear inspiration from the Bronx Bombers\u2019 home uniforms, while light grey hits on the outsole and lace collar pay homage to their clean, stripe-free road look.<\/p>\n\n\n

Foamposites rarely get this kind of color treatment, but the history is there. Back in 1997, Penny Hardaway famously filled in the grooves of his Foamposite Ones with a black Sharpie to comply with NBA uniform regulations. Ironically, the Yankees\u2014an organization notorious for its strict grooming policies\u2014have eased up over the years, while the NBA now allows just about any sneaker colorway on the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
