By far the biggest announcement of the Pok\u00e9mon Presents livestream held on 27 February 2025 (Pok\u00e9mon Day 2025) was the reveal of major information about upcoming spin-off video game Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A via a trailer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Is Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To be released in late 2025 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A will be a sequel to Pok\u00e9mon X and Y, the main-series video games of Pok\u00e9mon\u2019s sixth generation. Set in Lumiose City, the largest city of the Kalos region, Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A will have a storyline centered around the planned redevelopment of Lumiose City by Quasartico Inc. who claim to be seeking to make Lumiose City a place where humans and Pok\u00e9mon will be able to coexist peacefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A will reintroduce Mega Evolution to the Pok\u00e9mon video games; it had previously been discontinued at the end of Gen 7. It will also feature a real-time combat system instead of the Pok\u00e9mon franchise\u2019s usual turn-based one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though in the grand scheme of things, not much about Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A has been revealed as of yet, there\u2019s already been enough shown to know what are some of the Pok\u00e9mon and human characters who will be prominently featured in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that in mind, let\u2019s take a look at some Pok\u00e9mon TCG cards which have connections to Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting off our list is Zygarde, the box Legendary of Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A. In seventh-generation set GX Ultra Shiny [SM8b], the Dragon\/Ground-type Legendary is shown at its full power; Zygarde GX is depicted in its Complete Forme on this reprint of a card first seen in Forbidden Light [SM6]. Additionally, it\u2019s the Shiny form of Zygarde which features on this card\u2019s Full Art illustration just as was the case with many other cards from the set, which as its name implied, was centered around Shiny Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like many of the other cards in GX Ultra Shiny [SM8b] which showcase Shiny Pok\u00e9mon, this Zygarde GX card comes in the rarity of Shiny Secret Rare (SSR). The card\u2019s sparkle-filled background is a reference to the Pok\u00e9mon video games in which a similar visual effect is shown when a Shiny Pok\u00e9mon is brought into combat; when this is combined with the card\u2019s rarity as well as the fact that the card depicts a Shiny Pok\u00e9mon, it can be seen how together, these factors elevate the card\u2019s overall value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the three Starter Pok\u00e9mon of Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A will be Chikorita\u2014a Pok\u00e9mon which over the years has unfortunately been often maligned by the Pok\u00e9mon fandom. Prior to this, one of its other highlights was a card depicting the final form of the Gen 2 Grass-type Starter\u2019s evolutionary line: the Meganium card from fourth-generation set SoulSilver Collection [L1].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Super Rare Holo card displays a side of Meganium that isn\u2019t commonly shown; the Herb Pok\u00e9mon is shown with a menacing look as it\u2019s primed to attack. This imagery is a stark contrast to most depictions of the usually mild-mannered Meganium, giving this card a level of novelty. Of course, the main reason behind the bulk of this card\u2019s value is its rarity; Super Rare Holo is the highest rarity of dual set HeartGold Collection [L1] and SoulSilver Collection [L1]. Topping it all off is the layer of mirror holofoil that covers the card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best known outside the Pok\u00e9mon fandom as the person from the \u201cIt\u2019s been 3,000 years\u201d meme, AZ will again appear in Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A\u2014this time as the owner of Hotel Z. Many fans were taken aback by his new characterization\u2014clearly completely different from his role in Pok\u00e9mon X and Y in which he was revealed to be the creator of the so-called \u201cultimate weapon\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only one AZ card has ever been printed; however, its Super Rare (SR) version from Phantom Gate [XY4] is certainly an impressive pull. It features a Full Art illustration by Naoki Saito depicting AZ holding a Pok\u00e9 Ball between two fingers of his left hand. The look in AZ\u2019s eyes likely conveys the depth of his longing for his beloved Floette\u2014his first Pok\u00e9mon which left him after AZ used the ultimate weapon to destroy both warring factions of a conflict that had engulfed all of Kalos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Terastallization was introduced to the Pok\u00e9mon video games in Pok\u00e9mon Scarlet and Violet, the Pok\u00e9mon TCG explored the idea of type-shifted Pok\u00e9mon all the way back in Gen 3 via Delta Species cards. One such card was the Electric-type Feraligatr \u03b4 card from Offense and Defense of the Furthest Ends\u2014a card which might see revived interest because Totodile, Feraligatr\u2019s first form, will be one of the Starter Pok\u00e9mon in Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this Rare Holo card\u2019s illustration, an electrical current can be seen crackling all over the now Electric-type Feraligatr \u03b4; this is also a nod to Feraligatr \u03b4\u2019s Pok\u00e9-Body of Battle Aura. In addition to the card\u2019s rarity and striking illustration, the holofoil that covers the card adds further aesthetic impact by illuminating the electricity surrounding Feraligatr \u03b4 and making it look more realistic as it prepares to attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much like Meganium, Emboar is often panned by the Pok\u00e9mon fandom; it\u2019s arguably the least popular final form of a Starter Pok\u00e9mon of all time. However, those who were quick to criticize Gen 5\u2019s Fire-type Starter might now be having second thoughts after its first form Tepig was confirmed as a Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z-A Starter\u2014if this Ultra Rare (UR) card from fifth-generation TCG set Hail Blizzard [BW3] hadn\u2019t already changed their minds, that is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being one of its set\u2019s rarest cards, this card\u2014a reprint of a card originally from Black Collection [BW1] is an inherent attention-grabber. It\u2019s also the Shiny version of Emboar being shown; this is another factor enhancing the card\u2019s value. This Shiny color scheme is also enhanced by the illustration as the artwork shows Emboar\u2019s flames glowing blue in front of a fiery background, highlighting the extent of Emboar\u2019s incendiary powers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
