[Update 7 Mar 2025] A new variant of this deck includes the Kaido card from Animal Kingdom Pirates [ST-04] <\/a>as well as the Mr. 2 Bon Clay (Bentham) card from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01]. Kaido is primarily a late-game attacking option which is of particular use when the opponent has a low-cost Character card as the Active Character card. Bentham, meanwhile, is mainly used in the early game as a DON!! ramping option; it’s also able to launch a powerful attack if the opponent happens to have a Character card with a high total Power level in play as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although it’s taken a while for the Purple\/Black Luffy deck to emerge as one which is relevant in the current ONE PIECE Card Game metagame, it’s recently begun to make breakthroughs at various tournaments and has gradually started to pick up traction among the ONE PIECE Card Game’s player base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unlike many other decks, this deck makes heavy use of DON!! deramping in the early game; it uses this deramping to the player’s advantage. The deck’s Leader card from Emperors in the New World [OP-09] has an effect which, whenever the player returns two DON!! cards to the DON!! deck, subsequently allows the player to add an active and a rested DON!! card. This therefore allows the player to gain an active DON!! card for the turn while also activating powerful effects without needing to be concerned over those effects’ drawbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the early game, the deck’s most important card for DON!! ramping is the Roronoa Zoro card from Emperors in the New World [OP-09]. By playing this card, the player not only ramps an active DON!! card after returning two other DON!! cards to the deck; returning those two cards also activates the deck’s Leader effect. In this way, a total of three DON!! cards of which two are active are ramped in the same turn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another card included to set off the deck’s Leader effect is the Sanji card which is also from Emperors in the New World [OP-09]. It’s typically played during the mid-game and not only activates the Leader effect; it also allows the player to rest an opposing Character with a cost of 6 or less. In addition, Sanji gains Rush when played, potentially setting up a KO on the opposing rested Character card. Another Sanji card\u2014one from 3D2Y [ST-14] is also an important board control card; it’s used for instant KO’s on opposing low-cost Character cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two Monkey D. Luffy Character cards are the deck’s strongest late-game attackers. The card from Emperors in the New World [OP-09] hits for 10,000 Power after gaining Rush; it also allows the player to draw an additional card. With a massive 12,000 Power, the card from Awakening of the New Era [OP-05]<\/a> is the finisher. After having attacked with all the player’s Character cards, the player can then play this card to return them all\u2014as well as 10 DON!! cards to the bottom of the deck before ramping back up with the deck’s Leader effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When mulliganing, the cards to prioritize are the aforementioned Roronoa Zoro card, the Sanji card from 3D2Y [ST-14], and any of the deck’s multiple searchers. The deck’s most difficult matchups are against the Blue Doflamingo, Red Shanks, and Black\/Yellow Luffy decks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Buying all the cards in the Purple\/Black Luffy deck costs at least 13,920 JPY (~US$93).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
