Although the Gholdengo ex deck wasn’t a completely off-meta pick prior to the international release of Surging Sparks [SSP], it hadn’t generally been regarded as a true top-tier deck until then. However, everything changed with that set’s release as its new additions allowed its titular card to maximize its true potential\u2014and since then, the tournament results of the Gholdengo ex deck have improved tremendously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Gholdengo ex (Raging Surf [SV3a] 087\/062)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For one attached Steel Energy card, Gholdengo ex gains access to its Make It Rain attack. To use the attack, the player discards Basic Energy cards from the hand. For every Basic Energy card discarded, Make It Rain deals 50 damage. As such, when the player has a large number of Basic Energy cards in hand, the attack can sometimes one-shot even the bulkiest opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is where Energy Search Pro, an ACE SPEC card from Paradise Dragona [SV7a] which was released abroad as part of Surging Sparks [SSP]<\/a>, comes in. That card allows the player to add any combination of Basic Energy cards of different types to the hand after searching the deck for them. This is exactly what Gholdengo ex needs in order to unleash Make It Rain at its full power; it turns the Coin Entity Pok\u00e9mon into one of the most potent offensive forces in the current metagame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For collectors, the version of this card which is of most appeal is the Special Art Rare (SAR) card from Raging Surf [SV3a]. The card’s Full Art illustration by Akira Komayama depicts the Steel\/Ghost-type Pok\u00e9mon standing in front of multiple stacks of Gimmighoul Coins, its arms folded as it wears a smug expression on its face. The imagery encapsulates a scene much like what most Pok\u00e9mon fans would think of if they were told to think of a scene featuring Gholdengo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The English version of this card is card 252\/182 from Paradox Rift [PAR].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A copy of a Gholdengo ex (Raging Surf [SV3a] 087\/062) card has a price of 4,710 JPY (~US$30).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
