The Pikachu card from the original Expansion Pack is one of the most iconic Pok\u00e9mon TCG cards of all time. In the more than quarter of a century since its 1996 debut, it’s been reprinted on a total of nine occasions. The most recent of these came as part of the Charizard & Ho-Oh ex Deck [CLL] of Pok\u00e9mon Card Game Classic<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Almost the entire reason behind the demand for this card is the nostalgia factor. It’s almost an exact replica of the OG from the Gen 1 days; only the set acronym, new serial number, and holofoil set it apart. The card’s illustration is relevant too\u2014just like the original card, the circles on Pikachu’s cheeks are yellow instead of the usual red. Over time, this has actually served to elevate the status of the original and therefore indirectly this reprint as well\u2014so much so that the original and all its subsequent reprints are colloquially referred to by the Pok\u00e9mon TCG community as “Yellow Cheeks Pikachu”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one might expect, this card has a long and storied history. In 1999, it was released as the first-ever promotional English Pok\u00e9mon TCG card at that year’s E3. It’s also been available as part of the Pikachu World Collection, as a prize in the Pok\u00e9mon Snap Best Photo Contest, and as an oversized card in the First Partner Collector’s Binder, among other re-appearances. In addition, this Gen 9 version of this card, released in October 2023, was the first reprint in almost 15 years; the most recent prior to this one had been in fourth-generation set Bonds to the End of Time [Pt2] way back in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
