Despite the plethora of releases in the market every year, especially from industry behemoths like Nike, plenty more don’t. Each one goes through several rounds of sampling, and only a select few ever see the light of day. From those left on the cutting room floor, some “fall out of the back of the truck” and find themselves in the hands of collectors and resellers. Such is the case of the titular Nike SB Dunk Low “OFF! Bug Spray”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OFF!-inspired SB Dunk Low belongs to the same genus of unofficial collaborations that’ve incidentally gained mystique based on their extreme rarity, such as the Freddy Krueger, Heineken, Jedi Dunks, et al.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The green and orange of the bug spray are channeled into the suede and leather of the upper, with the orange accents reminiscent of its warning label. A darker green hue highlights the mudguard and heel overlay while a lighter shade\u2014the toe, midfoot, and collar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The orange, inspired by the brand’s logo, adorns the rope laces, Swoosh, and heel branding. The yellow of the glow surrounding the OFF! logo, are introduced on the eyestay, tongue, and heel tab. The lime green midsole and tonal outsole round out the look without diverting attention from the various colors and textures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, the Nike SB Dunk Low “OFF! Bug Spray” remains to this day, a sample. However, it at least underscores Nike’s openness to unorthodox inspirations that have given the world some of its best designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
