One of several cards from ONE PIECE Card Game Starter Decks to have recently received a Parallel Art reprint, this Edward Newgate card stands in stark contrast to all the other cards before it which have featured the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates. It is, in fact, this difference which is likely the main factor that elevates this card’s general appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Edward Newgate (Red Edward Newgate Starter Deck [ST-15] ST15-002)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unlike that of every other Newgate card prior to this one which all have serious vibes and depict Newgate as the fearsome warrior that he was, the imagery on this one goes in the opposite direction. This time around, Newgate and his crew are shown aboard their ship, enjoying themselves with large quantities of alcoholic beverages. It’s a side of the so-called “Strongest Man in the World” and “Man Closest to One Piece” that’s seldom seen in canonical material and thus has the effect of humanizing him and increasing interest in the card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, this Super Rare Special (SR-SPC) card’s illustration features Portgas D. Ace, Monkey D. Luffy’s brother and a massive fan favorite even over a decade after he was dramatically killed off at the end of the Marineford Arc. For many, Ace’s inclusion in the image will make this card an even bigger draw than the presence of the featured character himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
