The Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition [S8a-P], released in 2021 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Pok\u00e9mon TCG, brought back classic cards of sets from long before and took them into the eighth generation. One such card was the Shining Magikarp which was first seen in Gen 2 set Awakening Legends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nostalgic factor is the biggest driver of this card’s value. Those who have been into the Pok\u00e9mon TCG will recognize the card originally from the second generation\u2014among the biggest pickups of its original set. In its version from the Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition [S8a-P], this card also has a logo on its right side to denote its status as a card from a commemorative set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The card’s depiction of Magikarp in its Shiny form further elevates demand for it, just as is the case with virtually every card that features a Shiny Pok\u00e9mon. This card is also a reprint of one of the first two Shining Pok\u00e9mon cards ever released\u2014the other being Shining Gyarados which was also first launched in Awakening Legends. On top of that, the fact that it’s a Shiny Magikarp is also significant because a Shiny Magikarp evolves into the Red Gyarados depicted on the Shining Gyarados card\u2014the most iconic Shiny Pok\u00e9mon of all time due to the player’s memorable encounter with a Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage in Gen 2’s Pok\u00e9mon Gold and Silver video games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
