[Update 12 Sep 2024] As expected, this deck has seen a significant rise in tournament play following the ban of the Red\/Purple Law deck as well as that of the Enies Lobby card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03]. Both bans served to slow down the usual pace of play; this deck is at its best in slower-paced games.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, two new cards from Two Legends [OP-08]\u2014S-Snake<\/a> and Nami\u2014have become options for a new variant of this deck. While not commonly used, some Yellow Katakuri decks have also begun to include the Portgas D. Ace card from 500 Years in the Future [OP-07].<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not many ONE PIECE Card Game decks are built around the idea of outlasting the opponent by constantly replenishing Life cards. However, this is exactly the idea behing the Yellow Katakuri deck. Despite not having been a metagame staple since June 2024, some have forecast this deck as one which will begin to make a comeback following the upcoming ban of the Trafalgar Law card from The Three Captains [ST-10] and thereby the Red\/Purple Law deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As the foundation of this deck’s tactical approach, it’s crucial to have a source of Life card replenishment in play. Some of the deck’s cards that make this possible include Kozuki Momonosuke and Kikunojo, both cards from Wings of the Captain [OP-06]<\/a>, as well as the Charlotte Linlin card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03].<\/span> With a Power of 12,000, the Linlin card also serves as the deck’s primary attacker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of this deck’s most important combos involves two more Wings of the Captain [OP-06] cards: Kozuki Hiyori and You’re the One Who Should Disappear. If the player opens with both cards, Hiyori can be played on the second turn and then be added to the player’s Life cards. This sets up the player’s titular Leader card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03] which can gain up to 4,000 extra Power through this sequence. Katakuri also allows the player to place the top card of either the player’s or opponent’s Life cards at the bottom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hiyori and You’re the One Who Should Disappear combo should be prioritized when mulliganing, as should the Charlotte Perospero card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03]. When going first, the Charlotte Pudding card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03] will also be important for a search option on the first turn, leading to subsequent DON!! swings. When going second, the Momonosuke card should be sought because of its ability to replenish the player’s Life cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most difficult match-ups for this deck are the Black Moria and Black\/Yellow Luffy decks. Against the Black Moria deck, the player is advised to carefully manage hand resources so that the deck can take full advantage in the late game. The Kikunojo card from Wings of the Captain [OP-06] can be helpful; however, this card must not be dropped before the opponent falls to 3 Life so that it isn’t removed on the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea when playing against the Black\/Yellow Luffy deck is to keep the opponent at 2 Life for as long as possible; the player can accumulate DON!! during that time. This way, the player delays the opponent’s ability to activate a Power boost. An important card against this deck is Momonosuke, which doubles as a blocker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The cumulative price of all the cards in the Yellow Katakuri deck is at least 17,620 JPY (~US$122).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
