Two more Poncho-wearing Pikachu cards were added to the six from Gen 6; one of those two was this card featuring Pikachu dressed as an Alolan Vulpix.

About Poncho-wearing Pikachu (SM-P Promotional Cards 037/SM-P)

This card was originally released in February 2017 as part of the Sun & Moon Alolan Vulpix & Vulpix Poncho-wearing Pikachu Special Box. In addition, Pikachu is shown dressed as an Alolan Vulpix. This is significant because regional variants of Pokémon such as Alolan Vulpix were introduced in Pokémon’s seventh generation. As such, this card added an unconventional touch to the introduction of one of the generation’s new features.

Every promotional card that features Pikachu is certain to be a massive hit. Not only that—since this card is part of a promotional card series, it will be in greater demand by those who have the money to do so and are seeking to collect the whole set. Like the rest of the series, this card will also never be reprinted.

This card has the attack “Powder Snow?”, alluding to the fact that it’s not the real Alolan Vulpix in the image; Powder Snow is one of Alolan Vulpix’s attacks. There’s also a tiny detail which may go unnoticed by many but which serious Pokémon fans will appreciate: the card’s number. This card’s number is 037/SM-P, referencing Vulpix’s Pokédex number of 37.

Release Details

This card is only available in Japanese.

A copy of a Poncho-wearing Pikachu (SM-P Promotional Cards 037/SM-P) card sells for 70,000 JPY (~US$475)!

In other TCG-related news, check out the Enies Lobby card from Pillars of Strength [OP-03]. Alternatively, you can also head over to the SNKRDUNK App via the banner below and find the top trending and latest single cards and boxes.

The tremendous success of the sixth-generation Poncho-wearing Pikachu series of Pokémon TCG promotional cards prompted Creatures Inc. to extend it into Gen 7.
