Aside from a solitary second-place finish by US player Joel Wedge at the Los Angeles Regionals in June 2024, this deck has had almost no metagame success to speak of. However, with the meta shifts to be induced by upcoming sets as well as card bans, the fortunes of the Purple/Yellow Crocodile deck could soon be taking a major upturn.

Strategy

With this deck, it’s all about DON!! ramping and deramping. This is done via the effect of its titular Leader card from Kingdoms of Intrigue [OP-04]. When the players deramps DON!! during the opponent’s turn, Crocodile’s effect activates. This in turn ramps the player’s DON!! back up.

The Ms. Wednesday card from the Extra Booster Memorial Collection [EB-01] is critical to this deck’s overall strategy because during the opponent’s turn, Ms. Wednesday can return a DON!! card before adding an active DON!!; the latter effect is possible because Crocodile, the deck’s Leader card, is a Baroque Works card. This helps the player ramp up DON!! for a stronger position later in the game.

Once the player has ramped up enough DON!!, Character cards such as a different Crocodile card from Kingdoms of Intrigue [OP-04], Yamato, another card from Kingdoms of Intrigue [OP-04], and Portgas D. Ace from 500 Years in the Future [OP-07] can be brought out.

Portgas D. Ace has a Rush effect that allows for an immediate attack, Yamato can pick up insta-KOs on certain opposing Characters, and the Crocodile card mentioned earlier in this paragraph allows the player to draw and trash a card during the opponent’s turn. When used in combination correctly, these cards can be used to put the opponent in a serious hole—one which might be an unsalvageable position.

Price

The total cost of all the cards in the Purple/Yellow Crocodile deck is at least 44,290 JPY (~US$301).

In other TCG-related news, check out the Trafalgar Law card from The Three Captains [ST-10].
