In late 2022, professional American football player Odell Beckham Jr. filed a US$20M lawsuit against Nike, claiming that the Swoosh had altered his contract to prevent him from extending their lucrative deal. Beckham also alleged they failed to fulfill their commitment to developing a product line for him. He also claims he filed the suit after attempts at an amicable resolution failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A resolution was finally reached last week. Beckham took to Instagram to thank everyone who was a part of the case, and concluded his caption by saying, “STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN! JUSTICE WAS SERVED!!!…”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement to Complex, Nike said, “With this verdict, all of Mr. Beckham\u2019s claims have been decided against him without any monetary award. The decision confirmed that Nike complied with its commitments. Nike is grateful to the jury and the Court for their careful attention to this case.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Multnomah County Circuit Court jury in Oregon ruled in favor of Nike, finding that the company did not breach its contract with Odell Beckham Jr. by withholding royalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jury also determined that Beckham’s customizations to his gloves did not violate the contract and that Nike had waived its right to enforce certain glove design provisions. Additionally, the jury concluded that Beckham did not breach the contract by disclosing its terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
