Part of the seventh-generation SM-P Promotional Cards, the one-off Poncho-wearing Eevee series was launched in 2017 to tremendous fan demand. These Pokémon TCG cards not only featured Eevee; they also indirectly spotlighted all of its eight Eeveelutions through the various ponchos donned by each Eevee on each of the eight cards.

Like all the other Poncho-wearing Eevee cards, the one which has Eevee wearing an Espeon poncho implies that the Eevee depicted longs to evolve into its Psychic-type evolution someday. This adds character to the card; in addition, cards that have a narrative of some sort—such as this one—tend to do well with regard to fan appeal. The card’s background of plaid purple further accentuates the Espeon-related theme.

A further allusion to Espeon can be seen in the name of the card’s attack. The question mark in the attack name “Psychic?” implies that it’s actually Eevee “cosplaying” as Espeon, as it’s not the true Psychic attack.

The set of eight promotional cards capitalized on the fan-favorite status of Eevee and its eight evolutions; for this reason, the card appeals to completionists seeking to collect the entire set. Finally, since this card was part of a promotional campaign, the number of copies in circulation is limited; this significantly raises the card’s value.

No English version of this card was ever released.

The price of a Poncho-wearing Eevee (SM-P Promotional Cards 140/SM-P) card is 70,000 JPY (~US$448).
