[Update 11 Aug 2025] This card was briefly made available on the US, UK, and Canadian Pok\u00e9mon Center online stores on 8 August. Initially intended to be available until 30 September, the stores were fully sold out in less than 24 hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The card will also be made available at GameStop stores in the US from a date yet to be announced.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Update 23 Jul 2025] Two versions of this card’s English translation will be handed out at Worlds Celebration Tournaments from 11 to 17 August 2025. The version which all participants will receive was the one revealed at NAIC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Update 17 Jun 2025] The version of this card for the 2025 Pok\u00e9mon World Championships was recently unveiled at the Pok\u00e9mon North America International Championships (NAIC). Featuring artwork of Pikachu facing off against Iron Thorns, this promotional card is rumored to be released in August, mirroring the timing of last year\u2019s promotional card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conjunction with the 2023 Pok\u00e9mon TCG World Championships and subsequently the start of the 2023-24 Pok\u00e9mon TCG tournament season, a promotional Pikachu card was released in seven Asia-Pacific countries\u2014Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines\u2014back in August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The card would also be distributed as a participation prize at Pok\u00e9mon Card Gym tournaments in Japan between September 2023 and February 2024. Now, this same card has just had its price tag absolutely skyrocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent weeks, this card has seen its price almost quintuple. This is likely because this year’s World Championships are about to take place. The 2024 Pok\u00e9mon TCG World Championships will be held in Honolulu from 16-18 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding to the card’s value is its illustration which depicts Pikachu in combat against a Charizard in a large stadium. There’s actually a dual meaning behind this image. First off, it refers to how the best Pok\u00e9mon players in the world\u2014whether in the TCG, video games, or Pok\u00e9mon Go\u2014are facing off on the biggest stage of them all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondly, it alludes to the climax of the original run of the Pok\u00e9mon anime when Ash’s Pikachu faced off against Leon’s Charizard with the world championship title on the line; this can also be regarded as an allusion to the real-life World Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The English translation of this card is card 101 in the SVP Black Star Promos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The price tag of a Pikachu (SV-P Promotional Cards 120\/SV-P) card is 26,000 JPY (~US$166).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
