It’s typically the case that middle forms of starter Pok\u00e9mon don’t get anywhere near the fan following that their first and last forms do. As such, Pok\u00e9mon TCG cards that depict starters’ middle forms aren’t usually as sought-after as those of their evolutions or pre-evolutions. However, in the case of the Art Rare (AR) version of the Wartortle card from Pok\u00e9mon Card 151 [SV2a]<\/a>, this certainly doesn’t apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The card’s Full Art illustration depicts Wartortle underwater; this is an important detail because when combined with the Full Art illustrations of the Squirtle and Blastoise ex cards, a cohesive narrative is formed. This feature undoubtedly adds to the card’s value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The illustration’s narrative plays another role in increasing this card’s desirability. That’s because Wartortle’s evolution Blastoise ex is among the biggest pulls of Pok\u00e9mon Card 151 [SV2a]\u2014not surprising, given the fact that it’s one of the most iconic Pok\u00e9mon ever. Both these connections to Blastoise ex indirectly drive up demand for this card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The card’s holographic foil elevates the card’s visuals as well by further emphasizing the light streaming down through the surface of the water. This makes the image appear more life-like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The English version of this card is card 171\/165 in 151 [MEW].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Wartortle (Pok\u00e9mon Card 151 [SV2a] 171\/165) card of AR rarity sells for 5,600 JPY (~US$35).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
