[Update 7 Jan 2025] Official images of the Nike Kobe 5 Protro Year of the Mamba “University Red” have emerged! Check them out in the gallery above.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Update 2 Jan 2025] The Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Year of the Mamba” Pack, comprising the “Eggplant” and “University Red” colorways will see the former making its debut in adult and GS sizes on 9 January 2025. The latter will follow suit on 18 January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside this information, it has also been ascertained that retail pricing will be US$190 for adult sizing. A slew of new images, official, and otherwise, of both pairs have also come to light. [Update 25 Oct 2024] New visuals of the Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Year of the Mamba” in University Red have been doing the rounds online, courtesy of @chriscolgan<\/a>. A new release date has also been relatively confirmed for the pair, seeing the launch brought forward by a month to 16 January 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Update 18 Oct 2024] In-hand photos of the Nike Kobe 5 “Year of the Mamba” in University Red have surfaced via @prm.cotd<\/a>, offering a more detailed preview of this highly anticipated release. This pair joins the previously revealed purple edition, both inspired by the Chinese zodiac’s Year of the Snake, a nod to Kobe Bryant’s iconic nickname.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key features of the University Red colorway include gold snakes wrapped around the Swoosh on both sides, accented by gold trim and jet black. A patch of velveteen fabric featuring a scale-like pattern further enhances the snake motif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While a specific release date for the University Red pair hasn’t been confirmed, it’s expected to launch around the same time as the Eggplant edition, which is scheduled for 8 February 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Per tradition, Nike will usher in the Year of the Snake next year with a series of commemorative Chinese New Year releases. This coincides with Jordan Brand’s own five-piece “Year of the Snake”<\/a> collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Nike Basketball, the focal point will be the highly anticipated Nike Kobe 5 Protro. Given the thematic synergy between the zodiac animal and Kobe Bryant’s playing style and nickname, expect the shoe to be adorned with snake-inspired motifs that visually connect these elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on available information, the Kobe 5 Protro “Year of the Mamba” boasts a bold color palette featuring University Red contrasted by black and metallic gold accents. Subtle nods to the Black Mamba’s signature sheath logos and the Year of the Snake itself are expected to complete the aesthetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the release will reportedly include special packaging for the shoes. The Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Year of the Mamba” is slated for a Spring 2025 release in men’s and grade school sizes, priced at US$190 and US$120, respectively.
