Whenever the Pok\u00e9mon World Championships come around, there’ll inevitably be a slew of Pok\u00e9mon TCG products to accompany them. These items almost always become highly sought-after collector’s items due to their unique status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the 2023 Pok\u00e9mon World Championships were held in Yokohama, the 2023 World Championships Yokohama Deck: Pikachu [WCS23] was released in conjunction with the event. This Pikachu ex card was the flagship card and like its predecessors, has also seen general interest from buyers remain high long after the tournament’s conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like all other World Championships-related cards, this Pikachu ex card has the tournament’s logo emblazoned in the bottom-right corner. The background of the card depicts a Pok\u00e9mon arena\u2014implying that it’s the illustrator’s take on the arena in which the players went head-to-head for the world championship title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The card also features Koraidon and Miraidon, the mascots of ninth-generation main-series video games Pok\u00e9mon Scarlet and Violet. This is fitting because the 2023 World Championships were the first of Pok\u00e9mon’s ninth generation. Additionally, Miraidon is also an Electric-type, so that further serves to augment the effect of the electric attack being unleashed by Pikachu ex and thus add character to the illustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This card was not released in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A copy of a Pikachu ex (2023 World Championships Yokohama Deck: Pikachu [WCS23] 001\/030) card sells for 12,000 JPY (~US$78).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
