This fall, Jordan Brand will commemorate Mexico’s Independence Day with the release of the Nike Air Jordan 5 \u201cEl Grito\u201d. The colorway’s name references El Grito de la Independencia\u2014the event that kickstarted Mexico’s struggle for independence from Spain after almost 300 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At midnight on 16 September 1810, priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang his church bell and issued the call to arms to commence the Mexican War of Independence. This call to arms would go on to be referred to as “El Grito de la Independencia”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would take over 11 years before Mexico would obtain its independence. To this day, Hidalgo remains a symbol of Mexican independence\u2014so much so that every 16 September since, the president of Mexico rings the same bell that Hidalgo did and recites El Grito during an official ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In honor of the occasion, the sneaker’s color palette features Diffused Taupe, Dark Pony, Sail, and Apple Green\u2014a set of colors that really capture true Mexican grit and tenacity. Although no images confirming this have yet emerged, the shoe is likely to feature specific elements alluding to Mexican heritage and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anticipated for release in September 2024 through Nike SNKRS and select retailers, the Nike Air Jordan 5 \u201cEl Grito\u201d is yet to have its price point revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
