Besides hit singles, award-winning features and a scarily charismatic personality, Kentucky rapper Jack Harlow is also well-known for his fierce loyalty to New Balance. In Harlow’s own words:<\/p>\n

I have been rocking New Balance since I was a kid, so to officially join the brand in this way is really exciting,<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always loved the 990 and recently the Joe Freshgoods 990v3 and collabs with the 550 have been fire. I\u2019m excited to peek behind the curtain and work with the brand more.<\/p>\n

Now, Harlow will be getting his own pair of New Balance 550s that celebrate the release of his 2022 studio album, “Come Home The Kids Miss You”. While he didn’t make changes to the 550’s silhouette, the design and colourway make references to Harlow’s music and interests. Right off the bat, the album’s title “Come Home The Kids Miss You” shows up on the heel in a classic serif font, exemplifying the vintage design of the 550s, which were based off basketball court shoes developed in the late 80’s.<\/p>\n

Harlow uses a “Louisville vs Kentucky” colour combination, with Louisville Cardinal’s bright red and yellow on one pair standing off against Kentucky Wildcat’s deep blue and mustard on the other pair. By using the long-standing rivalry between the two D1 sports teams as a basis for the sneaker lineup’s colourways, Harlow offers us a glimpse into some interests that are close to his heart.<\/p>\n

Besides these references, Harlow’s new 550s do not appear to have any other deviations from the iconic original design. High-quality leather with a mixture of smooth and perforated textures make up the majority of the upper. Meanwhile, a sail and grey-coloured sole unit with an ‘aged’ look (similar to many Aim\u00e9 Leon Dore x New Balance collaborations<\/a>) rounds out the shoe’s overall look.<\/p>\n

No official information has been released about the sneaker pair’s release date and retail price, so stay tuned for more updates. While waiting, enjoy some photos of Jack Harlow and friends’ first look at the sneakers.<\/p>\n
