The innovative Parisian fashion house Maison Margiela has reunited with Reebok to introduce three new sneaker designs to their “Memory Of” collection first released in March 2022.\u00a0The original collection featured the\u00a0Reebok’s Classic Leather and Club C stripped of its emblematic logo, leaving behind frayed stitching and exposed seams. Such intentional design spotlights the making process \u2014 a nod to the fashion house’s commitment to the deconstruction and reworking of silhouettes. In this way, Maison Margiela’s signature “Memory Of” designs are primed to evoke memories of something that used to be there, but no longer exists.<\/p>\n

Such a disruptive idea finds footing in the reinterpretation of Reebok’s iconic Instapump Fury, Question Mid and Zig 3D Storm.<\/p>\n

1. Instapump Fury Memory Of in Black & White<\/h3>\n

Deconstruction takes the form of an exploded-view drawing in this reinvention of Reebok’s\u00a0popular Instapump Fury. The exposed foam details on the heel and toebox, coupled with the lack of seams in the mudguard, reveal the internal workings of the sneaker to its audience. Flexible bridges that usually appear in the middle of the pump bladder is shifted to the back, while the bladder itself has been amplified, accentuating a floaty elevation. The result is a unique rendition of the Instapump Fury that retains its original shape, but has its interior slightly altered.<\/p>\n

2. Question Mid Memory Of\u00a0in Black & White<\/h3>\n

In classic Maison Margiela style, the Question Mid also has its classic design features reshuffled, resulting in a refreshed look reminiscent of its original \u2014 similar to how a memory slightly differs from the actual event. The sneaker’s lace loops have been pushed to the middle of tongue, creating an interesting lace pattern on both its sides. The shoe’s inner foam also makes an appearance through cuts in the padding. The fashion house leaves its debossed marks by replacing the Question Mid’s number 3 on the outsole with its footwear code 22.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Zig 3D Storm Memory Of\u00a0in Black & White<\/h3>\n

An inversion reinvents the classic look of the Zig 3D Storm. Though the shoe retains its shape, the upper exposes the tech detailing that constructs the shape. The moulded heel padding and spliced tongue are also made obvious in this inversion. Notably, the Reebok vector logo is attached at the toes and crafted from frayed cotton twill laminated in foil. Maison Margiela also stitches its logo on the EVA-filled TPU sole, emphasising the collaborative effort in the design.<\/p>\n
