It’s the year of the puffer jackets, it seems. As Moncler celebrates its iconic Maya Puffer Jacket’s 70th birthday with longstanding “Genius” designers, The North Face is also doing some commemorations of its own for its Nuptse jacket’s 30th anniversary.

The Nuptse has grown to become one of TNF’s most iconic silhouettes since its inception in 1992. Named after the Nuptse mountain just two kilometres from Mt. Everest, the jacket is famous for its lightweight down feather construction encased within snow-and-rain-repellant mini ripstop nylon. It’s durable and breathable without being heavy or overwhelming — an important quality for both mountaineers and streetwear lovers alike.

The North Face’s approach to birthday celebrations is rather similar to Moncler’s. Tapping into its longstanding partners’ creative capacities, the brand invites them to refresh the silhouette with their own flair. eYe Junya Watanabe MAN is the next in line (after KAWS) to refresh the silhouette, and the Japanese brand does so in its signature patchwork style.

Utilising Green/Cream colorblocking, this patchwork style is reminiscent of Junya Watanabe’s take on Supreme’s assortment, but in a less military and more approachable manner. Though the stitching is exposed to lend the patchwork greater rawness, the neat rows signal the fashion house’s precision and skilled craftsmanship.

This eYe Junya Watanabe MAN x The North Face Nuptse patchwork jacket is slated for release on 18 Nov and will retail for JPY209,000 (~US$1490). It will be made available on eYe Junya Watanabe distributors and ZOZOVILLA.

In other collaborative wonders, Palace and Umbro reunite after 10 years, just in time for the FIFA World Cup.
