Over the years, Latias has consistently been featured on more impressive cards than its Eon duo counterpart Latios. While that may seem surprising on the surface, it shouldn’t be so as Latias is indeed the more popular of the two—largely because of one specific scene. (More on that later.)

About Mega Latias ex (Mega Symphonia [M1S] 088/063)

A large part of this card’s appeal lies in its narrative element; it appears to be the third part of a continuous storyline first involving the Latias ex and Latios cards from Paradise Dragona [SV7a], then the Latias & Latios GX card from Tag Bolt [SM9]. Narrative-wise, the sequence begins with Latias and Latios flying over the sea at dusk towards each other. Once they meet, the Eon duo crane their necks into a heart shape as the setting sun streams through the negative space created. Finally, as Latias flies off, it Mega Evolves into Mega Latias ex along the way.

Cards with this level of narrative depth often attract much fan attention—especially when one of the related cards is as iconic as Latias & Latios GX. Add to that the card’s rarity of Special Art Rare (SAR) as well as Latias’ high level of fan popularity—a large part of which is due to a scene from 2002 anime movie Pokémon Heroes in which (SPOILER) a shapeshifted Latias came face-to-face with protagonist Ash Ketchum (END SPOILER)—and all the elements are in place to create one of the set’s obvious highlights.

Release Details

The English version of this card will be released alongside the rest of the Mega Evolution [MEG] set on 26 September 2025.

Buying a Mega Latias ex (Mega Symphonia [M1S] 088/063) card will cost 14,020 JPY (~US$93).
