Despite only having the rarity of Double Rare (RR), the version of the Celebi & Venusaur GX card in that rarity from Gen 7 set Tag Bolt [SM9] is one of several TAG TEAM GX cards to have recently experienced a value spike.

About Celebi & Venusaur GX (Tag Bolt [SM9] 001/095)

The card’s Full Art illustration shows Venusaur standing on a rocky area at the edge of a forest with Celebi floating nearby. According to Creatures Inc. executive director Atsushi Nagashima, the image represents Celebi and Venusaur’s status as the protectors of the forest. Mitsuhiro Arita, the illustrator of this card, added that Celebi and Venusaur are depicted in a position inspired by professional wrestlers locking arms with each other.

Despite the fact that the card’s rarity isn’t particularly high, the narrative behind the card’s illustration does much to jack up its value. In addition, the visual appeal of the card’s illustration combined with the presence of two highly popular Pokémon in Venusaur and Celebi further elevates demand for the card and thus its price.

The English version of this card is card 1/181 in Team Up.

A copy of a Celebi & Venusaur GX (Tag Bolt [SM9] 001/095) now sells for 2,050 JPY (~US$14) following its recent price spike.
