COMME des GARÇONS x Salomon FW22 Takes GORPcore to Greater Heights
COMME des GARÇONS x Salomon FW22's bloated platform sneakers are sure to make a splash.
High fashion has been dipping its toes into trail-ready wear, and Comme des Garçons is showcasing their own spin on the trend, albeit in a bloated way.
It’s not CdG and Salomon’s first link up, with their previous pairs also bulky in their own right, but none are anywhere close to how the couture house has elevated the Salomon silhouette for its FW22 runway. Imagine a boat-like rubber platform outfitted onto slimmer knit upper with toggle lace. Now, stop imagining it, and see how it has manifested in reality:
Dubbed the COMME des GARÇONS x Salomon Pulsar Platform, the model is undeniably eccentric, but was not so jarring among COMME des GARÇONS’ runway pieces. Strutting down the catwalk were bulbous hooded dresses, shroud-like one pieces and dramatically bulging trims.
Though it is hard to say whether the collaborative pair is indeed trail-appropriate, it is definitely a refreshing take on how dramatic high fashion can imbue a performance-first brand with voguish innovations.
As expected from CdG, the CdG x Salomon Pulsar Platform come in a neutral black and white and are available at Dover Street Market for US$490.
In other oversized sneakers, check out Balenciaga’s newest 3XL silhouette that’s definitely extra large.
