The release of the Mega Evolution [MEG] expansion set on 26 September 2025 will include the launch of the Mega Evolution Elite Trainer Box and the Mega Evolution Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box. There are two promotional cards which could be included in either Elite Trainer Box; one of the two is this Alakazam card.

About Alakazam (MEP Black Star Promos 009)

The Full Art illustration of this card depicts Alakazam standing on top of a rocky outcropping; the background features a wave-like pattern implying that Alakazam is unleashing one of the psychic attacks it’s known for. Part of this card’s appeal also has to do with the fact that Alakazam evolves from Kadabra—a Pokémon blacklisted from the Pokémon TCG for two decades due to a lawsuit filed by illusionist Uri Geller.

In addition, since this is a promotional card which is exclusive to the Elite Trainer Boxes, it’s therefore likely to carry an inherent level of value. The version from the Mega Evolution Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, being the only one of the two with the Pokémon Center logo on it, will likely be the more coveted version.

Release Details

The Japanese version of this card will be card 071/063 from Mega Symphonia [M1S] and will be released with the rest of the set on 1 August 2025.

The retail price of an Alakazam (MEP Black Star Promos 009) card will only be known after the first copies are sold on the open market.
