CASIO Shrinks Time to Finger Size with CRW-001 Ring Watch

CASIO introduces a new paradigm of wearable technology with the launch of the CRW-001, the Japanese legacy watchmaker’s first-ever ring-style digital watch. This miniaturized timepiece represents a significant departure from traditional watch design, condensing full watch functionality into a piece of jewelry that fits on your finger.

The CRW-001 achieves its compact form through a miniature module that’s approximately ten times smaller than standard watch components. This engineering feat utilizes optimized, high-density mounting techniques to pack all essential watch functions into a ring-sized device.

The manufacturing process employs metal injection molding (MIM), where fine metal powder is injected into molds to create the case, case back, and ring as a single unified piece.

This production method enables CASIO to faithfully reproduce the complex design elements typically found on their watches, including the signature dimpled band pattern, while maintaining the structural integrity required for a wearable ring.

The Ring Watch features water resistance through a specialized glass adhesive technique that creates a tight seal, preserving the minimalist three-button design necessary for function switching.

Despite its reduction in size, the CRW-001 maintains comprehensive timekeeping capabilities. The 6-digit digital LCD display shows time down to the second, complemented by calendar, dual time, and stopwatch functions.

The watch accommodates different finger sizes with a 20mm inner diameter (size 22 US, 10.5 EU) and includes size-adjusting spacers for inner diameters of 19mm and 16mm.

The Ring Watch integrates a unique pulsing light feature that activates on the hour and at preset times, creating what CASIO describes as an “emotional quality that speaks to the twinkling of time”. This subtle illumination adds a modern touch to the traditional concept of hourly chimes.

The CRW-001’s ring design connects to CASIO’s historical roots through the yubiwa (finger ring) pipe, developed in 1946 at Kashio Seisakujo, CASIO’s predecessor company.

This original ring product became a commercial success during post-World War II Japan, when goods were scarce and workers needed to maximize their cigarette consumption. The profits from this early innovation provided the capital foundation for CASIO’s later development of revolutionary calculators.

Through referencing this heritage piece, CASIO positions the CRW-001 as both a technological advancement and a tribute to the company’s tradition of creating unexpected solutions to everyday problems. The design choice reflects CASIO’s commitment to “bringing new levels of joy to lives one by one through the power to put wonder at hand.”

Release Details

Housed in a special packaging in the form of a ring box in a velvet pouch, the CASIO CRW-001 Ring Watch will launch on 16 July 2025, 11AM in Singapore, with a price tag of S$199.
