The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup accelerates, and the biggest sportswear brands are putting the pedal to the metal to capture the world’s attention. With North America hosting the tournament, the intersection of football and fashion is more pronounced than ever, and the ne plus ultra of this synergy is adidas and Yohji Yamamamoto’s Y-3 label.

Yamamoto, renowned for his avant-garde approach and disregard for mainstream trends, has long been a pioneer in blending sport and style. His work with adidas Y-3 has consistently pushed boundaries, but it was the +F50 Tunit “Beast Pack” from 2006 that truly captured the imagination of the fans, both collectors and casuals alike.

About the adidas Y-3 +F50 Tunit “Beast” Pack

adidas Y-3 +F50 Tunit “Beast” Pack

Originally released in the lead-up to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the adidas Y-3 +F50 Tunit “Beast” Pack featured four designs—Tiger, Dragon, Eagle, and Wolf—each rendered in bold, artistic motifs across the synthetic AdiHex microfiber upper. These graphics were inspired by the work of artist Taishi Hayashi, whose influence is also seen in Yamamoto’s mainline collections.

The original pack was produced in extremely limited numbers and distributed through select global retailers. Each pair arrived in cage-like packaging, underscoring the wild, untamed concept that set the collection apart. The boots themselves retained the Tunit system, but their visual impact and scarcity quickly cemented their status as cult classics.

The upcoming collection faithfully recreates the four original animal-inspired styles, but also introduces several updates for a new generation. Notably, the +F50 branding has been removed for a cleaner aesthetic, and the original studded sole has been replaced with a flat, street-ready outsole—signaling a shift from pitch performance to lifestyle versatility.

A velcro-assisted shroud now covers the traditional lacing system, and the underside of this shroud features both the Y-3 logo and markings commemorating the years 2006 and 2026, highlighting the collection’s role as a celebration of two decades of Yamamoto’s influence on football and fashion.

Release Details

The adidas Y-3 +F50 Tunit “Beast” Pack is slated for release in April 2026. The retro is unlikely to feature the ornate cage packaging of its predecessor, but the parties are expected to present the collection through innovative marketing and activations. The move also aligns with broader trends in fashion, where football boots are increasingly embraced as statement pieces off the pitch.
