Many of the most meta-relevant Normal-type Pokémon in the current Pokémon TCG metagame make use of some of the most metagame-defining Abilities today. These include Noctowl from Stellar Miracle [SV7] with Jewel Seeker, Pidgeot ex from Ruler of the Black Flame [SV3] with Quick Search, and Fan Rotom from Stellar Miracle [SV7] with Fan Call. However, the release of The Glory of Team Rocket [SV10] brought a viable counter to these cards: Stadium card Team Rocket’s Watchtower.

About Team Rocket’s Watchtower (The Glory of Team Rocket [SV10] 096/098)

When in play, Team Rocket’s Watchtower deactivates all Abilities of all Normal-type Pokémon in play—both the player’s and the opponent’s. Since the aforementioned Pokémon are used for setup purposes, the idea behind playing this Stadium card is usually to disrupt the opponent’s setup process by limiting the opponent’s opportunities to pick up crucial cards.

This card’s appeal almost entirely stems from its gameplay relevance as with a low rarity of Uncommon (U) as well as no other factors which would attract collectors to the card, Team Rocket’s Watchtower is a card which doesn’t hold much in terms of collectability.

Release Details

The English version of this card is card 180/182 from Destined Rivals [DRI].

Due to its low rarity, a Team Rocket’s Watchtower (The Glory of Team Rocket [SV10] 096/098) card costs very little; a copy sells for just 30 JPY (~US$0.21).
