Splash damage can have a devastating impact on a Pokémon TCG’s Benched Pokémon if left unchecked. For that reason, cards which have an Ability which shields the player’s Benched Pokémon from damage often see much gameplay use and are placed in various decks. The latest example of such a card is the Shaymin card from Heat Wave Arena [SV9a].

About Shaymin (Heat Wave Arena [SV9a] 066/063)

Shaymin’s Ability is Flower Curtain; that Ability protects all of the player’s Benched Pokémon which are not Pokémon-ex from sustaining any damage. Since several decks in the current metagame make use of splash damage, Shaymin serves as a form of counterplay against such cards. The decks most commonly including this card are those which make use of evolution because by keeping the Basics on the Bench protected, the player can then develop them into their final form.

The version of this card which is more sought-after by collectors comes in Art Rare (AR). It depicts the Mythical Pokémon in its Land Forme front of a floral background that befits the lore behind it. In addition, the color scheme of the background has been selected to be similar to Shaymin’s own.
