Although Black Bolt [SV11B] and White Flare [SV11W] are intended to serve as a “nostalgia trip” all the way back to the fifth generation of Pokémon, the Special Art Rare (SAR) Meloetta ex card from Black Bolt [SV11B] alludes to a far more recent Pokémon video game. This is despite the fact that Meloetta itself is a fifth-generation Pokémon.

About Meloetta ex (Black Bolt [SV11B] 170/086)

This card’s Full Art illustration features the Mythical Pokémon in a grassy field, the wind whipping up leaves in the background. The illustration itself is also covered in a yellowish color filter. When put together, this is an unmistakable reference to The Indigo Disk—the second DLC of Gen 9 video games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. In The Indigo Disk, the player encounters Meloetta in the Coastal Biome of the Terarium at Blueberry Academy after (SPOILER) going to the spot where leaves are swirling in the wind, spinning for 10 seconds, then turning on the camera’s sepia filter and panning it until Meloetta can be seen (SPOILER).

Not many cards make this direct of a reference to the video games; as such, many will be likely to recognize the scene being depicted on the card and thus be drawn towards it. The card’s high rarity level further elevates demand for this card as does the fact that Meloetta was an important side character in the fifth generation of the Pokémon anime; for that reason, this card might attract the Pokémon anime crowd as well.

Release Details

This card’s English version will be released on 18 July 2025 as part of Black Bolt [BLK].

The sale price of a Meloetta ex (Black Bolt [SV11B] 170/086) card is 4,500 JPY (~US$31).
