Mythical Pokémon Genesect was once a key part of one of the most iconic decks in Pokémon TCG history: the Virizion ex/Genesect ex deck which dominated the tournament scene in 2013 and 2014. While the Paleozoic Pokémon’s card from Night Wanderer [SV6a] might not necessarily reach those heights, it’s nonetheless provided another viable option for Dragapult ex deck players.

About Genesect (Night Wanderer [SV6a] 040/064)

Genesect is mainly included in Dragapult ex decks to counter Gholdengo ex decks. Gholdengo ex decks often rely on consistent card draws to obtain the cards in question, but Genesect’s Ability of ACE Nullifier blunts that strategy. This is because the card which is often draw by Gholdengo ex decks via Coin Bonus, its titular Pokémon’s Ability, is the deck’s ACE SPEC card. However, as long as Genesect has a Pokémon Tool attached, the opponent is left unable to play that ACE SPEC card from the hand.

This card only comes in the rarity of Uncommon (U) and as such isn’t of particular note to most collectors; it’s a card which serious players rather than collectors would typically gravitate towards. That being said, the upcoming release of Black Bolt [SV11B] and White Flare [SV11W] might drive up general interest in all Gen 5 Pokémon including Genesect.

The English version of this card is card 040/064 from Shrouded Fable [SFA].

Since it isn’t particularly rare, a Genesect (Night Wanderer [SV6a] 040/064) card doesn’t cost much; a copy sells for just 150 JPY (~US$1.04).
