The latest international expansion in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Destined Rivals [DRI], officially launches on 30 May 2025—but eager Trainers don’t have to wait until then to dive into the action. From 17 May, select retailers will offer early access to the new set through special Prerelease events, giving fans a first look at what the expansion has in store.

At the heart of these events is the Build & Battle Box, an event-exclusive product that lets players construct a deck and start battling right away. Each box contains four Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals booster packs, a 40-card ready-to-play deck, and one of four unique foil promo cards. This time around, the promotional cards include Ethan’s Typhlosion, Misty’s Gyarados, Team Rocket’s Tyranitar, and Team Rocket’s Mimikyu, each offering its own strategic edge and thematic flair. All four are reprints of cards from Destined Rivals [DRI].

Unlike standard play, which typically uses 60-card decks and six Prize cards, the Prerelease event format features 40-card decks and only four Prize cards, making for quicker, more dynamic matches. It’s ideal for newcomers looking to learn the game as well as experienced players eager to explore the set’s mechanics, combos, and new Pokémon.
