Ever since his introduction in Gen 5 Pokémon video games Pokémon Black and White, N has been a major fan favorite due to his compelling storyline as well as the fact that he belongs to a specific male character archetype that’s always been highly popular with the fanbase in general. As such, when a Full Art card depicting the ostensible leader of Team Plasma was released as part of Gen 6 set The Best of [XY], the card went on to become one of the set’s most coveted cards.

About N (The Best of XY [XY] 180/171)

The scene in this card’s illustration is taken from the dramatic ending of Black and White after the protagonist defeats N in the climactic final battle at N’s Castle. N is shown turning to face the protagonist one last time before flying off on either Reshiram or Zekrom (depending on the version being played). The direct reference to one of the video games’ most iconic scenes certainly elevates the value of this card.

As has already been mentioned, N also belongs to a specific character archetype which many Pokémon fans find particularly appealing; his story arc adds further intrigue and mystique to one of the Pokémon franchise’s most enigmatic characters. Finally, N’s profile within the Pokémon TCG has recently been further raised due to the presence of the misprinted N’s Zoroark card from Battle Partners [SV9] which far and away ranks as the set’s most expensive card.
