There are certain Pokémon TCG decks which make use of taking the player’s Pokémon from the field of play and placing them in hand to save them from being KO’d and thus ensure that the opponent won’t take any additional Prize cards. As counterplay for this tactic, some variants of defensively-oriented decks include the Milotic card from Mask of Change [SV6].

About Milotic (Mask of Change [SV6] 030/101)

The decks in which Milotic is most commonly played are the Pidgeot ex and Snorlax decks. This card is mainly included as a tech to deal with the Gardevoir ex deck—a deck against which these decks often struggle. This is because the Gardevoir ex deck often includes the Professor Turo’s Scenario card from Future Flash [SV4M] to save Pokémon with damage counters on them as a result of the Abilities of the deck’s Pokémon. Milotic’s own Ability of Mentally Calm ensures that Professor Turo’s Scenario can’t be played for as long as Milotic is in play.

This card is almost entirely known for its gameplay viability. With a relatively low rarity—coming in at Uncommon (U)—and without a Full Art illustration, it’s never been a card which collectors have particularly sought.

The English version of this card is card 050/167 from Twilight Masquerade [TWM].

A Milotic (Mask of Change [SV6] 030/101) card is highly affordable; a copy sells for just 150 JPY (~US$1).
