[Update 21 Feb 2025] Another variant of this deck has emerged; it includes the Roronoa Zoro card from the Anime 25th Collection [EB-02] to set up KO’s on opposing low-cost Character cards by resting those opposing Character cards.

It isn’t often that a completely new ONE PIECE Card Game deck archetype becomes one of the metagame’s leading decks within less than a month of its Leader card’s release. This, however, is the case with the Green/Purple Luffy deck. A deck with a Leader card from the Anime 25th Collection [EB-02], released in Japan and Asia-Pacific on 25 January 2025, this deck has already become a fixture at many tournaments.

Strategy

This aggressive deck’s Leader effect can only be activated when the player has only Straw Hat Crew Character cards on the field. For that reason, this deck only includes such Character cards. The Leader effect allows the player to set two DON!! cards as active before the Leader card gains 1000 Power until the end of the opponent’s next turn.

There is a drawback, however; the player is also required to deramp for two DON!!. As such, this effect is usually only activated in the mid-game or late game unless the player has at least one ramping card in play.

Later in the game, the idea is to set up the Monkey D. Luffy Character card from the Anime 25th Collection [EB-02]—the deck’s main attacker. Thanks to its Rush effect which activates when the opponent has five or more DON!! cards on the field, it can potentially strike twice in the same turn—and that coming off a large Power total of 7000. This card thus poses the threat of taking multiple opposing Life cards in the same turn and is often used as a finisher.

An important defensive supporting piece in the Green/Purple Luffy deck is Gum-Gum Giant from Emperors in the New World [OP-09]. After deramping for two DON!! and trashing a card from the hand, the player can give either the Luffy Leader or Character card an extra 4000 Power before drawing two more cards—potentially giving the card in question the survivability needed to swing the balance of the game.

This deck’s most difficult matchups are the Green Bonney, Black/Yellow Luffy, and Red/Green Smoker decks.

Price

The price of all the cards in the Green/Purple Luffy deck is at least 21,600 JPY (~US$142).
