One of the most iconic cards of the seventh generation of the Pokémon TCG was Latias & Latios GX from Team Up. Featuring one of the most memorable illustrations in the TCG’s history, this card has firmly established itself as a true “pantheon-level” card.

About Latias & Latios GX (Team Up 170/181)

The card’s Full Art illustration by Sanosuke Sakuma depicts the Eon duo flying over the sea at sunset, their necks craned so as to form a heart shape with the negative space between them. The card’s holofoil adds further visual impact by highlighting the sun setting over the sea, its rays streaming through the negative space between the two Legendary Pokémon’s necks. It’s often said that this is a card which has to be seen in person for one to truly comprehend why it’s garnered the acclaim that it has; an image of it doesn’t come close to capturing how spectacular it really is.

The appeal of this Special Illustration Rare card partially lies in the characterization depicted; it conveys the idea of the closeness of the bond between Latias and Latios. The imagery might also be an allusion to Pokémon anime movie Pokémon Heroes which spotlighted the Eon duo.

Such is this card’s status and reputation that it was referenced in Gen 9 set Paradise Dragona [SV7a]; the Latias ex and the Latios cards from Paradise Dragona [SV7a] both have linked Full Art illustrations which directly allude to this card and narrative-wise are arguably its prequels.

Release Details

The Japanese version of this card is card 105/095 from Tag Bolt [SM9].

As one might expect, a Latias & Latios GX (Team Up 170/181) card doesn’t come cheap. A copy sells for a massive 163,870 JPY (~US$1,062)!
