At first glance, Manaphy may appear to be a rather unassuming card as far as Pokémon TCG gameplay goes; it has just 70 HP and an attack that deals only 20 damage (which in actual gameplay, it never uses). However, thanks to its truly incredible Ability, Manaphy has emerged as one of the most versatile support Pokémon in the history of the Pokémon TCG.

About Manaphy (VSTAR Universe [S12a] 178/172)

Wave Veil, Manaphy’s Ability, shields all of the player’s Benched Pokémon from sustaining any damage for as long as Manaphy is in play. Just by keeping Manaphy on the board, the player ensures that any otherwise vulnerable Benched Pokémon won’t be picked off—whether via spread damage or a snipe. As such, Manaphy serves as a key supporting piece of many different decks.

For collectors, the standout version of this Manaphy card has to be the Art Rare (AR) version from VSTAR Universe [S12a]. The card’s Full Art illustration by Taira Akitsu shows the Water-type Mythical Pokémon happily swimming in the sea, surrounded by various other Water-type Pokémon. There’s also a Pikipek in the top-right corner of the card, up in the sky looking on. These details add to the depth of the card’s imagery while also adding appeal for those who have Toxapex, Wishiwashi, Pikipek, Bruxish, or Pyukumuku among their favorite Pokémon.
